Commercial Kitchen Hood Cleaning Serving Vancouver Island

Grease does not stay where you can see it. Every service sends grease-laden vapour up past your filters and into the ductwork, where it cools, sticks, and builds. Our certified technicians clean the entire exhaust system, from the hood canopy to the rooftop fan, so your kitchen runs safer and your exhaust actually pulls. Book your commercial kitchen hood cleaning today.

Why Commercial Kitchen Hood Cleaning Is Important
Grease is fuel. When it coats the inside of a hood, filter bank, or duct run, a flare-up on the cookline has a path into the ceiling and the roof. That is why kitchen exhaust cleaning is a code requirement in British Columbia, not a nice-to-have. The BC Fire Code requires the use, inspection, and maintenance of commercial cooking equipment exhaust systems to conform to NFPA 96.
It also requires hoods, ducts, and filters that collect combustible deposits to be inspected at intervals no greater than seven days, and cleaned whenever the buildup creates a fire hazard.
NFPA 96 sets cleaning frequency by what you cook and how much of it:
-
Monthly for solid fuel cooking, such as wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills.
-
Quarterly for high-volume cooking, including 24-hour operations, charbroiling, and wok cooking.
-
Semi-annually for moderate-volume cooking, which covers most full-service restaurants.
-
Annually for low-volume cooking, such as churches, seasonal kitchens, day camps, and senior centres.
Those are minimums. Your local authority having jurisdiction, usually the fire department or a fire prevention officer, can require cleaning more often than the NFPA schedule. The BC Fire Code backs that up from the other direction: hoods, grease removal devices, fans, and ducts have to be cleaned at intervals frequent enough that the surfaces never become heavily contaminated with grease, whatever the calendar says.

Signs Your Kitchen Exhaust Hood Needs Cleaning
Waiting for an inspection to fail is an expensive way to schedule maintenance. Call us if you notice any of the following:
-
Grease dripping from the hood canopy, filters, or duct seams.
-
Smoke hanging in the kitchen instead of clearing through the hood.
-
Filters that stay tacky or visibly loaded after washing.
-
Cooking odours moving into the dining room or neighbouring units.
-
An exhaust fan that rattles, hums louder than usual, or slows down.
-
Heat building on the line because the hood is not pulling.
-
A fire inspector flagging buildup, or a cleaning tag you cannot find a date on.

Our Commercial Kitchen Hood Cleaning Services
We clean the full exhaust path, not just the parts customers can see.
The hood canopy gets scraped and degreased, including the interior surfaces and the grease trough. Baffle filters come out, get cleaned, and go back in correctly seated. We open the plenum and clean behind the filter bank, where buildup is heaviest and most often skipped.
From there, we work the grease duct, cleaning the horizontal and vertical runs through the system's access panels. Rooftop exhaust fans get opened up and cleaned on the housing and the blade wheel, then reset in place. We contain the work area and protect your cooking equipment and floors while we work.
Kitchen Hood Cleaning for Restaurants, Strata & Commercial Kitchens
Restaurant kitchens are the core of this work, but they are not the whole of it. We clean exhaust systems in pubs and breweries, hotel and resort kitchens, long-term care and assisted living facilities, hospital and school cafeterias, staff kitchens in office buildings, and commercial kitchens inside strata buildings.
Property managers and strata councils often book kitchen hood cleaning alongside our other building services. If you manage a multi-unit property, see our strata cleaning page for the full scope, or our commercial air duct cleaning page if your building's HVAC system is due at the same time. Landlords with mixed residential and commercial buildings can bundle residential air duct cleaning for the suites into the same visit.

Advanced Hood Cleaning Equipment
We use HEPA-filtered vacuum systems and industry-approved agitation equipment, along with the scraping and degreasing tools a heavy grease load calls for. The right equipment is what separates a cleaned system from a wiped-down hood.

Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Specialists
Our technicians are trained on the full exhaust path, including hoods, filters, plenums, grease ducts, and rooftop fans. Certified through NADCA, CNADCA, and QUADCA, and accredited with the BBB.

Improved Fire Safety, Airflow & Efficiency
A clean exhaust system removes the fuel a cookline fire needs to spread. It also restores airflow, pulls heat and smoke out of the kitchen faster, and takes strain off a fan that has been working against its own buildup.
